If you have applied for a new Chase credit card account, it is only natural to wonder when you'll find out if your card has been approved. Fortunately, getting the information you need is just a phone call away.

Checking on Your Chase Card Application

To find out the status of your application for a Chase credit card, you will need to know your social security number and have access to a telephone. Simply call the company's card member services application line at 888-338-2586. This line is an automated system, and you can call anytime.

When prompted, you will need to enter your social security number. You will be provided with details on your application via the automated call-in system. From there, you will find out if your application is still pending or if a decision has been made. If a decision has been made, you will be able to find out if your application has been approved or denied.

Requesting Reconsideration

If you learn that your application has been denied, you can choose to call the company's reconsideration line and put in a request to have the negative decision reevaluated. Don't assume that it would be a waste of your time to do this. Depending on your situation, your request for reconsideration may lead to a revised decision.

You will need to call and speak to a representative if you wish to request reconsideration. There are separate numbers for personal and business card applications, and you will need to call during business hours.

  • Personal account reconsideration line: 888-270-2127
  • Business account reconsideration line: 800-453-9719

According to The Travel Sisters, Chase's business line is not open on the weekends. You can call it between 8 a.m. and 10 pm. Eastern Standard Time (EST) Monday through Friday only. The personal line is open from 7 a.m. until 10 pm. EST Monday through Friday. It opens an hour later on Saturday (8 a.m.) and closes at the same time as weekdays (10 p.m.). The personal line is also open for 12 hours on Sundays, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST.

Too Many Applications

GoToTravelGal reports that she and her husband were able to get a Chase account approved after they were initially denied after requesting reconsideration. Their original denial was related to having too many credit applications within a 30-day period. The reconsideration representative to whom they spoke realized that one of the applications had moved beyond the 30-day timeframe by the time they called. So, their account was then eligible for approval.

More Than One Chase Card

In a situation where you already have one or more Chase cards and are hoping to open a new account to take advantage of a rewards program, you may also receive an initial denial. If you are willing to make changes to your existing account, however, you may be able to get a different decision. The Points Guy recommends that you may want to ask to switch some (or all) of your available credit from the existing account(s) to the new one you are hoping to open.
